This week’s guest is Tom Smoot and we talk about what it’s like to come home from the army with PTSD, the effects it can have on those around him, how he copes with PTSD, the power of exposure therapy.
About Tom: After more than a decade in the Army's special operations community, under Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations, Tom moved on with a PTSD diagnosis. Now, as an engineer and entrepreneur, he uses that military background to craft stories and insight into his work. When he's not running marathons or building things, Tom can usually be found spending his time at the The Lift and Shift Foundation which he founded and advocates for veteran inclusion in science and technology through programs that educate and build confidence or as he likes to say, reduces a veterans' barriers to entry. You can connect with Tom and follow his foundation at Lift and Shift Foundation. You can also follow the great work they're doing on Instagram, Twitter, and Medium.
